My friend has decided to trade in both his BMW 3 series and Infinity M35 for something that has better safety features. He’s looking for a sedan with AWD, lane assist and accident avoidance braking.

His requirement is that it be locally serviceable so this rules out Infinity, BMW, and Mercedes. Locally we have the major brands + Audi.

He wants a reasonable price point, 2015 or 2016 would hit the spot. And, he is looking for something with a premium feel so probably not a Subaru. But a Cadillac XTS might be a candidate.

So what cars would Oppo recommend?

Lexus ES350 would have all that safety stuff. But good luck finding a 16. The 2015 models do not have that equipment.

Darn, I was hoping they stepped up their game. What was your objection?

“And, he is looking for something with a premium feel so probably not a Subaru.”

Oooooof. I was about to recommend the Legacy, possibly with the flat 6.

Vague, light steering, trans upshifted too quickly for the engine, making it feel slow, I had a hard time getting comfortable in the drivers seat, A pillar is enormous and far enough in front of you to obstruct your view, etc. It felt like the same FWD junk GM has been flogging for years.

On the other hand, I DO love the CTS, and the ATS and CT6 are fun to drive cars, too. I’d stick with their RWD platforms.

The new big Volvos are super nice. Test drove them while looking at the end of last year.

Just buy the damn Legacy. It’s great car and Subaru has improved their interiors a lot.

“lane assist and accident avoidance braking” If it’s not rude to ask... how old a gentleman is he? Is he starting to worry about his own ability behind the wheel?

Lets just say old enough to say yes. That being said, I trust his driving. He just wants the best aids possible, doesn’t want to be that guy.

Local service would be a problem unless the toyota store also can do warranty work. Do all GS 350's have the brake and lane departure?

140 miles to the closest shop..... Not that a volvo would ever need warranty work,,,
